i wanted to write about bokeh actualy but i didn't had the chance to realy go for it...
actualy this was the only image i could find... which i think and hope doesn't reflect the true blur quality of the lens... some the light sources look like donuts with thoose sharpening halos... i'll update this section soon... but...
... the low light (soft) focusing
had a movie gala and a live perfomance on wednesday evening...
@2.8 the lens was realy realy soft... it misfocused maybe 6 or 7 times out of 10... even the shots with the speedlight were soft or at least not as sharp as the 17-40...
then at the concert it was even worse...
see... it sux... right ?
at the end i swiched to my old reliable concert budies
the 70-200
and the 17-40
...talked to a few colleques about the matter, i wasn't the only one complaining...
...was even thinking about selling it and get a 50 fixed or so...
but then last night at a jazz concert @bablyon the 24-70 suddenly decided to focus again...
don't get it...
of course not every frame was perfect but the tragedy from the last rock gig was gone...
summary...
the 24-70/2.8L is a great piece of glass... sometimes... it's not the "ideal" lens for "not ideal" conditions... but it's a piece i love... despite it's flaws which can drive you crazy... it's a bit like a girlfriend you see...
i personaly decided to give it a bit more time, not to hesitate and sell it right away... it's only been a week now and these are my first impressions, got to wait and see... like in every other relationship ;)
